Together, with Campaign 4 Change, we are raising awareness nationally

What is Campaign 4 Change?

Campaign 4 Change is a self-advocacy group led by people we support, or have supported, at Achieve together, at present or in the past. The members raise awareness of important issues – both locally and on a national stage – campaigning for the rights of autistic people, people with learning disabilities, including people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

In Campaign 4 Change, we work to make sure everyone has a voice in shaping the future of care and support that people’s rights are upheld, ensuring people live their lives to the fullest.

Every member of Campaign 4 Change is in a paid role, recognising people’s expertise and insight.

Campaign 4 Change’s mission

Campaign 4 Change’s mission is to advocate for human rights, good lives and the right support for people with learning disabilities and autistic people who draw on social care, through campaigns and collaboration with other organisations and groups. Campaign 4 Change’s goal is for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to be seen as equal and valued citizens in our society.

The group also champions the rights of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, making sure people who may not be able to speak up for themselves are included in campaigning, advocacy and important decisions.

What does Campaign 4 Change do?

Developing strong external partnerships

From national conferences to training delivery, podcasts to politics – Campaign 4 Change works with organisations and communities across the UK to make a difference.

A few examples of the fantastic work they’ve done includes:

Championing representation at national events and in politics

Campaign 4 Change believe people with learning disabilities and autistic people should be involved in politics and policy to influence real lasting change. Members attend parliamentary events, get involved in national consultations and promote national campaigns. Campaign 4 Change member Mary Woodall is a self-advocate member of the Representative Body of Learning Disability England (LDE). As part of her role, Mary’s job is to represent the views of members of LDE at conferences, webinars and meetings, for example co-chairing the Learning Disability England (LDE) annual conference, supporting the My Vote My Voice campaign, helping to ensure people with learning disabilities can participate fully in democracy, and being part of All Party Parliamentary Group on Adult Social Care where she gets to take part in parliamentary events, influencing political change and future of social care.

Shared lived experience through podcasts

Campaign 4 Change have an ongoing partnership with Challenging Behaviour Foundation ,where people are invited to express their views to feed into Challenging Behaviour National Strategy Group meetings. One such example was a powerful podcast exploring what it’s like to live in a hospital versus in the community – and how to provide better support.

Campaign 4 Change created two Wheel of Engagement podcast episodes with guest speakers from other organisations, discussing My Vote My Voice campaign and barriers to voting with Dr Mark Brookes MBE and Good Lives Manifesto with Gary Bourlet, Membership and Engagement Lead at Learning Disability England.

Recognising leadership and achievement

Campaign 4 Change was named winners in 2025 Learning Disability and Autism Leaders Awards for their outstanding contribution to Arts & Entertainment. Campaign 4 Change organised an art exhibition featuring the works of artists with learning disabilities, autistic people and people who support them, with the theme of “What Makes Me Smile”.

In addition, Mary Woodall was also named a winner in Advocacy, Policy and the Media for her achievements in speaking up for the rights of people with learning disabilities and representing people’s views in politics.

Campaign 4 Change member Samir El-Ziftawy has been postmouthly awarded People’s Award at National Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2025 for his outstanding contribution in raising the profile of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities in self-advocacy and creating a lasting legacy.

Educating on co-production

Campaign 4 Change partnered with University of Bradford to deliver a 3-hour lecture to Social Work students as part of their Co-production module.

Campaign 4 Change created an engaging presentation that included interactive surveys, case studies, thought experiments and videos with the aim of ensuring that the Social Work students in attendance would carry the important lessons of co-production forward into their careers.

"Campaign 4 Change has been brilliant working with the Social work department at the University of Bradford specifically to deliver a session for students to teach them about Co-production.” Says Rebecca Hollis, Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Bradford.

“The session was extremely well planned and delivered, the feedback from the students has been extremely positive. Campaign 4 Change delivered the session in an engaging manner and were able to bring the session to life with their own experiences from co-produced pieces of work. We look forward to working with you all again!" – Lecturer at University of Bradford

#MindYourLanguage campaign

Language matters. Campaign 4 Change is leading the call for respectful, ordinary language in social care.

Their #MindYourLanguage campaign highlights how ‘othering’ and outdated language can affect how people are treated – and how they feel.

The latest video, #MindYourLanguage Bingo, is a funny and thought-provoking take on the power of words.
